Thursday, March 16, 2006 Asinine email Author Millenia Black received the following email from a bookstore where she was scheduled to do a signing: Referral: From a Friend Subject: Your Race Message: Greetings, my name is [--] and I'm the director of [--], you are slated to do a book signing with us on the 18th of March. I want to know if you are a black/ African American person. Thanks,[--] Of course, she was offended and cancelled the signing. But I'm just wondering what would have happened if she had emailed back and said she was Asian-American or Jewish-American or any other ethnicity. I mean, really, why the hell would they even ask that unless they were planning to limit the audience to only African-Americans, thus limiting Ms. Black's possible audience. Stupid.
