Teddy Pendergrass - "And If I Had"

Here's a favorite of mine ever since it was featured in the noir indie cine, Choose Me (1984). The song itself was from Teddy's 1977 eponymous album. It is so smooth and soulful, Teddy's voice so deep and smoky. It transports me to a dark night lit by neon lights, car beams and the ambient glow from a line of clubs. A tall silhouette leans against the exterior wall of a jazz club, the red glow of his just lit cigarette burning into the night. The distant wail of a horn trails from inside. Whiffs of smoke and perfume intertwine in the air. Peals of female laughter are answered by a the husk of a male basso. Other souls pass by, seeking an answer to their loneliness. And the night moves along.

Love this song.
