TOOL & BAD BOYS Short, Short Ebooks |
Wednesday, September 07, 2005 A cousin of mine, maybe? My surname is Cullars, which is rare among Af-Americans, and I find that those with this name are usually related to me, although distantly. I Googled my name one day and found this extraordinary young woman named Starr Cullars. She fronts her own band and plays a mean electric bass guitar. Even more amazing is that she is the only female instrumentalist to ever have been an official member of George Clinton's P-Funk dynasty. The Starr Cullars band has been compared to Queen, Lenny Kravitz, Prince and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. As a fan of Corey Glover, former lead singer of Living Colour, I can appreciate the merge of rock and funk. (I once interviewed Corey Clover for my defunct ezine, Elan. Read the interview.) As I've had fantasies about playing a bass guitar (and having a svelte figure while doing it), I think it would be sooo coool if she and I did turn out to be related. We've emailed each other a couple of times, but I haven't heard from her lately, and I won't press the matter. Still, I think I see a family resemblance. :-) Visit her site: http://www.pfunk1.com/starrcullars/
