Thursday, September 08, 2005 Writers hit hard by Kristina Being new to the romance writing community, I initially didn't think it was my place to broadcast the list of writers who were affected by Kristina. I don't know them personally, but my heart goes out to them. At Romancing the Blog, Stephanie Tyler writes about friends helping one another, so I'll do my part and let you know what's going on. Several writers have lost homes and basically everything they own, and the romance community is reaching out to help with auctions and donations. These writers include Larissa Ione, Charlotte Dillon (whose last pre-Kristina post was chilling), Nevada Barr, Mimi Heitzmann, and Metsy Hingle, (whose father-in-law died in the evacuation, whose husband's cousin was killed and whose godson is still missing). My heart is moved by all of the writers named in the hurricane check-in list where the latest news about their whereabouts and situations are posted. Michele Lewis, owner of the Afro-American Book Shops in New Orleans lost her bookstores as well as her home. Nevada Barr lost everything. Hopefully, more writers will check in to let the community know they are all right.
