Saturday, October 29, 2005 Atlantic storms go Greek For the first time in nearly sixty years, the World Meteorological Organization has run out of names for the Atlantic hurricanes and has moved on to the Greek alphabet (see prior post Please not another storm!). The 22nd storm, Alpha, brought torrential rains which flooded parts of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, causing a death toll of 21. If that wasn't bad enough, Storm Beta is being upgraded into a hurricane that is currently battering the small Carribean island of Providencia. This will make the 13th hurricane in the season (the rest of the names went to tropical storms). If, by chance, we reach Omega before the end of the year, I think it will be time to look out for the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
