Sunday, September 18, 2005 Please not another storm! Yes, there is yet another storm brewing, this time off the Florida Keys. This particular tropical storm has been christened Rita and is gathering enough force that tourists have been warned to evacuate. Although now just a storm, the forecast says that it could become a full hurricane by Monday (yes, that's tomorrow). BTW, how did we get to Rita? Seems like we were just dealing with Ophelia. For you storm-weary folks out there, here's a roll-call of the 2005 Atlantic storms that have caused so many headaches and in one case, so much heartache. Note that the storms are pre-named so if we're unlucky we'll be hearing about Stan and his successors pretty soon. Those that have come and gone are in bold. Arlene Bret Cindy Dennis Emily Franklin Gert Harvey Irene Jose Katrina Lee Maria Nate Ophelia Philippe Rita Stan Tammy Vince Wilma Addendum: Hurricane center may run out of names. If they hit Wilma before the year end, the center will begin using the Greek alphabet, which provides them with 24 additional names running from Alpha to Omega, and including such names as Omicron and Upsilon. Hurricane Upsilon? Let's hope we don't get that far this year.
