TOOL & BAD BOYS Short, Short Ebooks |
Thursday, May 17, 2007 Another view of The Secret In a letter to Oprah, Slate columnist John Gravois takes issue with Oprah's endorsement of The Secret and the book's simplified message that positive thinking offsets bad karma. He asks that Oprah give equal time to Karen Cerulo's Never Saw It Coming. In her book, Cerulo, a professor at Rutgers University, takes the opposite view of The Secret, citing instances where we as individuals and a country are blindsided by not preparing for the negatives because of positive wishing. In simpler terms, wishing doesn't always make it so and negativity isn't necessarily a bad thing. Well-laid plans are not effective if bad-case scenarios are not factored in. Can anyone say Iraq? Still, I'm hoping for that new kitchen floor I mentioned in my previous post. Labels: Potpourri
