Having kiddies a patriotic duty?

My country can ask a lot of things of me, including the painful chore of paying taxes. But when it comes to whether or not to have kiddies, they better step back. Not so, the Australians. Seems their population growth ebbed a little too much, prompting the government officials to urge citizens to "have one for your husband, one for your wife and one for your country." (Nothing like government intervention to get the juices flowing.)

But it seems the country's leaders needn't have worried. A recent study shows that the Australian birth rate has hit a 7-year high, and all without previous governmental prompting. Seems folks like sex (and kids), anyway and really don't need encouragement to "knock boots." Which leads to that old adage: "Let nature take its course."
