Monday, October 31, 2005 More Halloween lore Just read this in The Daily Perspective email I get from newspaperarchive.com: According to an article in the 1908 Indianapolis Star, the mystical holiday may also be opportunity for young women to foretell their future husband. The article explains several magical ways to do so, including tossing a spool of yarn out of a woman's bedroom window while she holds the end in her hand between midnight at 1 a.m. "As she proceeds to wind it slowly in it will seem at one moment to be gently pulled away from her. She must say in a low voice: 'Who holds the thread?' And a mysterious voice will whisper the name of her destined husband," the article says. Which leads one to wonder: if you reel in an unappealing catch, can you throw it back?
