TOOL & BAD BOYS Short, Short Ebooks |
Sunday, November 13, 2005 Just asigning away... In addition to the regular chores and a major life-altering family issue I had to face this weekend, I am signing 500 signature sheets that will go into the first printing of the upcoming Masques V horror anthology, edited by J. N. Williamson (Gauntlet Press, 2006). What would otherwise seem a tiresome task is actually an honor for me, especially when I look at the names included in the anthology (yes, I'm name dropping here, one of the few times I get to do it): Clive Barker, Gary Braunbeck, Poppy Brite, Ed Gorman, Jack Ketchum, Richard Matheson, William Nolan, Tom Piccirilli and many others. Horror fiction fans will know many of these names and their works. And I feel so totally lucky that my story was even considered when I look at the authors who represent years and years of wonderful storytelling. To quote from Wayne's World: "I'm not worthy." This is a case of a lucky break for me. My story, Just a Little, Just Enough, had been considered for another anthology. But even after I made the changes suggested by the editor (there was an email marathon going on for me to make the deadline), the story was ultimately rejected. Which, in the end, turned out to be a good thing because my friend Gary Braunbeck recommended that I submit it for this anthology. Surprisingly, the story was accepted for which I'm grateful. So, even as my hand starts to cramp up this weekend, I continue signing happily away, knowing that this is a chance that comes along rarely. At least for me.
