Author Connect

Amazon has introduced a new feature that allows authors to connect with their readers through blogs and extended profiles providing personal information, reading recommendations, information on other books, and sometimes even email addresses. Authors are encouraged to write about anything "they'd like their readers to know about them," as a way to provide more insight.

Only a few writers have been recruited for the program, but more are expected to join. One author, Meg Wolitzer ("The Position"), has created a blog specifically for the Amazon program in which she has posted comments on literature in general. Although author blogs are not new, the Amazon program provides a one-stop connection between book information, author information, excerpts and sales information, which works to increase an author's visibility and hopefully his or her marketability.

A few of the authors now participating are Anita Diamant, author of "The Last Days of Dogtown," Peter Hautman, who won the National Book Award for young people's literature in 2004 for "Godless," as well as David Dodd, author of "The Complete Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics."

Per The New York Times.
