TOOL & BAD BOYS Short, Short Ebooks |
Sunday, June 11, 2006 An inside view of this year's BEA To writers, the Book Expo of America is the holy mecca where the imams of the publishing world gather in one epicenter (or should I say mosque to carry through with the analogy?). Two years ago, it was held here in Chicago and provided me the first opportunity to meet face-to-face with my then new agent. McCormick Place was abuzz with, well....buzz. Everyone was searching for the next great bestseller, the next author to be anointed "great" and a lot of freebies. Even though I was just outside the perimeter (didn't have a pass so couldn't attend the seminars), I couldn't begin to count all of the totebags loaded down with books, bookmarks, bookcovers and anything bookish. The experience, even seen from the perimeter, is an exciting one. So, I got a kick out of reading Paul Constant's amusing account of this year's Expo held in Washington, DC. Makes for some fun reading. Check it out. It Gets So Fucking Lonely at BEA.
