Musiq's "Don't Change"

Years ago I read a personal account in a women's magazine (can't remember which one, maybe Good Housekeeping) where a young bride told about a horrendous car accident that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. She was just a few days away from her wedding when her car was struck by another oncoming car. She was thrown into the windshield and sustained facial injuries. The woman's relatives informed her fiance about the accident with the expectation that he would go and visit her. But upon learning that the woman he purportedly loved and wanted to spend the rest of his life with would have permanent facial scars, the fiance didn't even bother showing up at the hospital. Instead, he took a plane out of town and a few years later married someone else. As for the jilted bride, she too eventually found someone, someone who accepted her scars and all. And ironically, the scars were barely noticeable. In my opinion, she had two close calls and evaded them both.

People don't seem to understand that looks eventually fade, but the soul never will. Which is why anyone in a true relationship or contemplating marriage needs to really listen to the words of Musiq's "Don't Change." Unfortunately, too many people declare love without understanding the true responsibility of loving another person. In an increasingly superficial society, the enormity of these lyrics unfortunately go over a lot of people's heads. A woman commenting at Youtube declared she played this song constantly when it first came out and wanted to demand her boyfriend go up to the rooftop and yell the lyrics for all to hear. I understand where she's coming from.

The beauty of this video brings me to tears nearly every time I view it.
