Thursday, March 08, 2007  Off his rocker? Former Atlantic Braves pitcher John Rocker is dating a republican bodybuilder. They've been seen on several occasions and from all accounts are steadily dating. Why is this news? Well, the woman who has seemingly won the attention of his heart (or loins) is black. By the way, her name is Alicia Marie. And no, I have nothing against IR dating as I feature IR couples in my books. But if your memory is short, Rocker is the foot-in-mouth ass who spewed racist venom in a 2000 interview with Sports Illustrated, losing the respect of his fans and most Americans. In the interview, Rocker boldly exclaimed about New York: "It's the most hectic, nerve-racking city. Imagine having to take the 7 Train to the ballpark, looking like you're riding through Beirut next to some kid with purple hair, next to some queer with AIDS, right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It's depressing." In the same interview, Rocker managed to call one of his teammates "a fat monkey" and mocked Asian American women and Jews. Obviously Mr. Rocker doesn't sleep (f***) what he preaches. Or maybe he's actually found redemption through pumping and bumping. Or maybe they are kindred spirits. Alicia seems to share Rocker's disdain of foreigners, judging from the matching "Speak English" T-shirts. Anyway, here is an article at Sports Business that takes a look at racism in sports.
